This time of year means ballgames to me (and to our family). There's nothing like an afternoon at the ballpark in my opinion. On one such occasion recently we popped up to DC to celebrate a birthday of a friend and catch a ballgame. In DC, it's still a little cooler so a blazer fit the bill with a ball cap to keep the sun off of my face.
The one thing about this outfit that is a cautionary tale are the shoes. Though do-able for an afternoon at the ballpark, I would not recommend not heeding the warnings surrounding it not being a stellar idea to hike around Arlington National Cemetery in these bad boys. Surprisingly, my feet survived for the majority of the day, but mostly thanks to an Uber ride and a late night save from a girlfriend who had an extra pair of flip flops.

You'll notice that sweater hemlines are rising these days. For people like myself who have long torsos, this can be a little problematic. To help bridge that gap, I love to layer longer blouses and tanks underneath. Mixing and matching fabrics like lace and wool is a fun way to subtly add dimensions to your look.

With temperatures dropping, I am chomping at the bit to break out the leather. Over this week, I took a little liberties since this skirt was burning a hole in my closet. It really is a great piece that I can't wait to pair with black tights & booties when the temperatures drop even more.

And, of course, our little peanut had to get in on the action. Seriously, he's just too much sometimes.

I mentioned on Friday that these sweaters were back at JCrew. I'm not kidding, run do not walk, to grab them up before they are gone. I loved the mustard as a color, which has not always been the case. Just add it to the list of colors that I'm slowly warming up to. I'm can't wait to pair it with less obvious color choices like burgundy, teal, or grey.
Also, I've had this song stuck in my head since I wore a yellow dress on Friday so you're welcome for that.

It was only a matter of time before Louboutin took that signature red that graces the soles of his to-die-for kicks and turned it into a nail polish color. On 06 August, the first nail polish, Rouge Louboutin, hits shelves in several retailers at $50 a bottle. By the end of the month up to 30 colors will follow. Everything about this venture is so beautiful - from the shades to the design of the bottles to the anticipated merchandising within the stores that will carry this high end polish.
Now the question, will I try it out? I'm trying to decide: the price point is a little steep for nail polish. I currently have several bottles of Chanel polish which ring in at nearly half of the price tag of Louboutin's line. Chanel's quality in their nail polish is fantastic - the pigment is beautiful and it stays chip-proof on me for much longer than the average Essie or OPI. I'd be interested to see how Louboutin stacks up.

disco chicken
12/10/2013
When I was blonde and my sister was in town this fall, I drug my family out to what Charlotteans know as the 'disco chicken', an art installation close to the Mint Museum in Uptown, for our family Christmas pictures. I thought that it would include the right amount of sparkle for our holiday cards. Getting a toddler to cooperate when he's hungry and there are fun things like buses and garbage trucks tumbling by, was...in a word, challenging, but my sister did such a great job with them and we ended up having a blast.
Since this post is picture heavy, I decided to spare those who don't want to view the whole thing. More pics after the jump, along with where you can buy our looks.

Being an original doubter in the versatility of camo, I'm pleasantly surprised to say that I've been proven wrong. I'm still on the fence as to whether or not it's chic or utilitarian in the South, but either way, 'when in Rome' and all that.

Mondays are the worst, aren't they?! I've resolved today to combat the Monday blues with a fabulous skirt and my latest color combo obsession of navy and black. And speaking of obsessions, let's take a second to discuss this skirt. I purchased it to wear for our family christmas pictures (yes, we actually not only have that taken care of, but received the printed cards in the mail over the weekend - it's the ONE thing I'm on top of these days), but I've worn it several times since including to a wedding. It's the epitome of fun to me - the length, the fabric, the color, the pouff! Plus, the name says it all, Party Skirts. J'adore.

There are many things that I am excellent at justifying....an extra sequined sweatshirt is apparently one of them. I loved Markus Lupfer version, but not so much the price. So when I saw a similar, but equally as awesome version at F21, I knew I had to jump. I couldn't find it in our local store sadly, but it is still available online.

Last year, I totally caved on the camo trend and I still could not be happier with the decision. Paired with this shirt from JCrew and my Loub kicks, it was perfect for a night out with my girls.

confessions of a converted over-packer
7/29/2013
These days I've found myself more and more on the road for work. Work travel isn't always the most fun, but I feel like it's given me the opportunity to fine-tune my packing skills. To give you some background, I am a classic over-packer; or rather, I used to me. Give me a square inch and I'll take it. ('But what if I need that second sequin shirt?!', I'd say. 'See it can squeeze in right there.') Trust me, you don't need that extra piece of clothing, but what you do need is a well though out wardrobe to pack with you that allows for flexibility and ease. It's a game-changer and definitely worth figuring out what works best for you so that you can carry on and not drag along all of these extraneous pieces that won't get used. Here are a few of my tried and true tips:
* Head to your local cosmetic counter for sample sizes - I refuse to live without my creams and cleansers when I travel because it's even more important to keep your skin hydrated after plane trips. Having smaller sized goodies is the only way to make it through TSA.
* Pick clothing items that work just has hard as you will - I always travel with my Gap slim cropped pants because they are something that I can dress up or dress down, are comfortable, and are difficult to wrinkle.
[Events: Night out // Meeting Session]
* Unpack as soon as you can upon arrival - It's no fun to live out of a suitcase, even if it is for a night. It also allows for your clothes to naturally unwrinkle and avoids that panic in the morning when you are running late and realize you also need to iron.
Here's a peak at some of my other outfits for my latest work trip:
