In my opinion, nothing elevates your look like a killer pair of kicks and the holiday season is the best time to up the stakes by throwing on a pair to dance the night away. Lucky for all of us, there are tons of options available right now (and some for up to 40% off)! Happy Shoesday Tuesday to you!
Happy Tuesday folks! Today's post has been put postponed as Kate Spade just launched (another) secret sale just in time for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Truthfully, I feel like they do these about once a month these days, but I ain't mad about it. And this go-round there are tons of beautiful pieces for you to either gift a friend (or yourself - no judgement!).

I thought I was over chevron up until JCrew released some of their pieces this summer. They have a great take on a classic (albeit somewhat overused) print. This skirt is no exception - the classic navy and white give it a great classic feel but the proportions of color and width give it a much more chic feel. Call it #notyourmomschevron.

The thing about this dress is that it is comfortable and amazingly versatile. I wore the night time look for a night out while we were in Chicago and when I got the dress home was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to dress it down as well (You'll see that look later this week). But for night time, I feel like you can't go wrong with a leather jacket and some bling.

It's a conversation that frequently happens in our household, the items and outfits that women wear that men 'don't get' and more to the point don't like. But being the type of person who dresses for herself rather than anyone else, I rarely heed my husband's occasional running commentary on what I'm wearing. To be fair, he often surprises me on the outfits which I put together which he doesn't find particularly offensive, but regardless he still chooses to be seen with me so perhaps the outfits where our opinions diverge aren't that bad afterall. Regardless, one trend that I find befuddles men the most is the premise of pattern mixing. If you've followed me for awhile, you've probably noted I'm a huge fan of it. And this outfit was no exception. It's a trend that I'd recommend you give a whirl - you can play it safe and stick with patterns from similar (or the same) color families or go big (I love this skirt with this shirt).

I love flamingos; so since they are all over the place this season in fashion, I'm beyond thrilled. Specifically, Kate Spade's most recent collection is chock full of flamingo goodness. I'd definitely recommend integrating this whimsical, fun animal in your summer wardrobe and just in case you wanted to shop my favorite piece, I've included them below.

Are you on board with flamingos?

your mom: mother's day gift guide

Mother's Day is quickly approaching and since I've been a mother, I've taken a hard look at items that I've given my mother over the years. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure she appreciated and enjoyed the items that I carefully selected or made; it takes a mother's love, afterall, to fully appreciate macaroni art. But now that I have the perspective of being a mother, myself, I have come to better appreciate the gifts that elevate my life; little things that I enjoy that make my life a little more luxurious, a little more comfortable, and make me feel a little more fancy. With that in mind, here are my recommendations for items to pamper that special woman in your life, who loves you - macaroni art and all.

My parents have two black cats, two. It's a very bizarre coincidence and one that I would be mildly concerned with if I were a more superstitious person and didn't also take into account that my sister is actually their owners and my parents are the consument second parents for our strays that we take in. As my mother was so graciously snapping some shots for me (Thanks Mom!), one of them happened into the picture and since I've been gravitating towards old school Janet Jackson and all black recently, I thought why not. Apparently me and this one are kindred spirits.

It's slowly starting to warm up in these parts and I hope that it is part of an upward trend. This is my favorite time of year: warm, but chilly enough for a light leather jacket or leather weather.

There are lots of things that would fall under Winter Must-Haves for me; I'm a weather wuss afterall. However, how I mostly combat these cold, dreary days are two fold: Hunter Boots and bright colors. As you can see, Charlotte got a little bit of snow over the past week. Though it's nothing is comparison to what our Northern friends have been dealing with, it has been enough to halt the city. I would not be able to get through the winter without my Hunters. Even in the aftermath slush, I'm not willing to sacrifice a pair of killer pumps to muck around the city as the roads clear.

January was a bit of a brutal month as far as temperatures are concerned, and with the exception of a few random days this past week, February hasn't been much better. I'll be the first to admit that I'm a cold weather wuss and when temps dip below 55, I'm ready to throw in the towel and spend the rest of my winter hibernating under a blanket with sweatpants on.
That's what makes this dress so fantastic. First, it's a giant sweatshirt for all intents and purposes and secondly, it's cut so that you can snazz it up and feel put together (and warm) - all the while, feeling like you are wearing a warm hug all day long.

I used to be an all-the-same sorta girl. If I were wearing gold, I'd accentuate with gold accessories and with silver, all silver. Now I've grown to love the mix and match with metals and the more blatant the better.
