As with all things, fashion is cyclical and never has that been more clear to me the older I get.  Enter something you'll be seeing all over the place this Fall/Winter and that is velvet.  Be still my high school heart; I'm pretty sure I rocked an all velvet dress at not only cotillion, but also a winter semi-formal.   Good news is that velvet is back and better than ever.  It's a great fabric to mix with others with rich textures or simple ones.  Basically, it should be your go-to once the temps drop.

If you haven't picked up on it already, you will have noticed that the 70s are in full effect for the Fall.  Never has it been more acceptable to go digging in your mother's closet and of those items you'll want to be taking into your closet, you'll want to pay attention to the suede skirt.  It's popping up everywhere right now and for good cause.  It's incredibly versatile, easy to dress up or dress down, and uber comfortable.  More great news, I've found a lot of great options for your under $100 and worth the snag before they are gone.

I truly am happy to say that camo is back for another go-round this fall/winter.  Which means that I get another year to rock these awesome pants from Gap.  Wearing camo in the South can be tricky where camo is truly utilitarian for a good portion of the population.  When I wear camo, I try to girl it up a bit with some sparkles and feminine details.  I think this gorgeous bauble from Loren Hope (via Rocksbox) did the trick.

Last month I read an article speculating that denim was in danger of going out of style.  Given all of the denim that ruled the street style of this past week's NYFW, I have to call shenanigans on that speculation.  Denim still continues to be the most versatile pieces in my closet being able to transition from super casual to a little more formal with the right heels and accessories.  I have several go-to brands, but generally keep an open mind - being more petite, sometimes you have to be open to what works.

A part of our exploring our new neighborhood landed us at Stagioni's the other night to celebrate Scott's birthday.  The restaurant group which owns Stagioni's comes with a lot of hype and I have to say that Stagioni's totally lived up to their name.  We noshed on pork belly meatballs, mussels, and scrumptious pastas.  Even Liam enjoyed the ambiance - which is a tall order for a wiggly toddler.



As I've alluded to, I'm itchy to break out the fall fabrics and so with just enough chill in the air, I grabbed this leather skirt, which continues to be a favorite in my closet.  Another love of mine are the silk blouses from JCrew; I have several iterations and I find them so versatile - from jeans to skirts and pretty much in all weather.

I mentioned earlier that I was hunting a pair of grey denim.  Thankfully I found a way budget friendly version at JCrew Factory and they totally fit the bill.  I'm also loving how pastels are transitioning into Fall  - they are a great alternative to the richer hues that typically go hand-in-hand with the season.

I wore this skirt to the Fall Fashion Preview at Charlotte Denim House.  In addition to getting to check out the gorgeous new fall pieces (including some fur vests which are stunning), I also got to play with some of the fall makeup colors thanks to Woo Skincare and Cosmetics.  The lovely ladies over there introduced me to my new lip color obsession, NARS Sixties Fan.  It's the perfect shade for the fall and super fun to pair with this super fun skirt.

With temperatures dropping, I am chomping at the bit to break out the leather. Over this week, I took a little liberties since this skirt was burning a hole in my closet.  It really is a great piece that I can't wait to pair with black tights & booties when the temperatures drop even more.
