The thing about this dress is that it is comfortable and amazingly versatile. I wore the night time look for a night out while we were in Chicago and when I got the dress home was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to dress it down as well (You'll see that look later this week). But for night time, I feel like you can't go wrong with a leather jacket and some bling.

We woke up Sunday morning to a brisk 39 degrees (yes, you read that correctly), but what it made for was a truly beautiful, sunny Fall day. We are talking about the Fall days that you live for - where you layer up in all of your favorite fabrics (for me, fall means tweed, herringbones, etc) and just soak in the day. I nabbed this blazer last year before it flew off of the shelves, but thankfully the good people at JCrew know how to bring back a good thing. The beaded collar is just enough spunk and sparkler to make this jacket feel more feminine. Another favorite of mine are these jeans; being short I typically have a tough time finding a good jean that I can get altered while keeping its shape. These are actually the normal sizing (when I bought my pair, they were not available in petite yet) and they altered perfectly, but NOW they come in petite too - you couldn't have found a more perfect wide leg.

Happy Monday folks! As you can tell, I'm a little behind the eight-ball today; we had an unexpectedly busy, but fun weekend. This little number I wore to a birthday brunch celebration for a dear friend. Saturday was the perfect weather: sunny, but just cool enough with the most perfect breeze. It was a great opportunity to break out this skirt, which I've had on repeat lately and pair it with an all-time favorite sweater - the perfect breezy, comfy pairing in my book.

Belk Spring Fashion Preview 2014
1/29/2014
Last week I shivered my way over to Belk to sit with their VP of Trend Merchandising and Fashion Direction, Arlene Goldstein, to hear what is in store for Spring 2014 in the way of fashion. Belk always does such a great job of translating trends and presenting them in very relatable themes. I'm so thrilled to be able to share what you guys might have to look forward to as temperatures rise.
Feminine Charms
Feminine charms is about the details: the fabrics, the metal mixing, the seaming, and unexpected allusions to sexiness, as seen in the peek-a-boo detail in the French Connection dress below. We'll be seeing a lot of brocades, lace, and floral patterns this spring in light but vibrant pastels.
JetSetter
This theme is pattern-driven with lots of bold colors. You'll see lots of material mixing from wood to semi-precious stones, as well as animal prints continuing to be a big thing. There will be a lot of hand-crafted details as well. My favorites from this section are this Cynthia Rowley dress and Dolce Vita heels.
Clean Slate
This look is all about lines with a modernist approach. Take the BCBG look below: though the lines are very clean, there's also a ruffle which provides an unusual architectural detail. In these looks you'll find a lot of color blocking and use of black and white. I just love the lucite Michael Kors heels below - a good illustration for the chunky heel - which you'll be seeing a lot of in 2014 as well.
So what are you looking forward to this Spring? Do any of these trends speak to you?

A few weeks ago, I got some really exciting news: I was selected by Carolina Style Magazine as one of the 25 most stylish people in the Triangle! Crazy and surprising: yes, but very exciting and humbling as well. The event honoring the winners was a few weeks ago and this is the look I rocked, as well as what has quickly become my new favorite dress. I wanted to go with something effortlessly chic and this dress by French Connection fit the bill to a "T".
A special thanks to Bex who not only nominated me for the award to begin with, but also scouted this amazing wall for me!
And also a special thanks to you folks who visit my little space on the internets day after day, comment on my posts, and inspire me to continue on.
