spring closet updates

3/28/2016

I've been having spring fever for awhile now so with the first day of Spring not far from our rear-view mirror, I couldn't be more thrilled to officially have an excuse to look at my closet and figure out what works for the upcoming season.  I don't subscribe to seasonal closets (meaning I don't have designated clothes per season, but rather utilize as most of my closet for the entire year as much as possible) which affords me the opportunity to leverage a lot of my tried and true pieces and add in some updates.  If you are looking to update your closet, I've compiled a list of my 'must-haves' for Spring.

call in the army
I swear by this jacket, I've had it for years and it is a great compliment to any spring look. This season you'll see olive everywhere and it's far easier to pair with more feminine pieces that you'd think. Need inspiration? Look here, here, & here.

tie one on
Remember those silk scarves your grandmother wore when you were growing up? Well they are back now-tie one on your wrist or around your neck a la Rizzo from Grease and you've instantly upgraded that blazer outfit. Opt for more subtle tones or a pop of color-either way, you are as good as gold!

florals? for spring? groundbreaking.
Look, Devil Wears Prada references aside, florals are the perfect way to break into Spring and there are plenty of options out there right now from pants, to skirts, to dresses.  It's a no brainier.

hells bells
You'll still see the 70s influence this season, especially in the form of flare pants and bell sleeved tops and dresses. Bonus points if they are in lace.

give 'em the cold shoulder
The bare-shouldered trend was big last year but I suspect it will reach a fever pitch this spring/summer. Grab yours while you can and remember, ladies are pimps too, go on bush your shoulders off.

show your stripes
Stripes are a year round favorite for me, but if you are really looking to rock a trend that is easy, adds an instant level of chic-ness to your look and can be worn everyday-this is the trend for you.
