A Royal Affair

4/30/2011

I don't usually blog on the weekends, but given the activities of yesterday, I felt as if I wouldn't be a fashion blogger without commenting on the details of the royal wedding on Friday.  I get that the media coverage is a bit redundant so I'll keep this as brief as possible.

I had been hoping (and had my own suspicions) that Catherine Middleton would choose Alexander McQueen (a la Sarah Burton) as her wedding dress designer.  I was so thrilled to see that it was her ultimate choice.  I also love its similarities to Grace Kelly's wedding dress.  It is such a classic and timeless look.  Kate has absolutely exquisite taste in fashion and beauty.  She definitely did not disappoint on Friday.  Everything about her was breathtaking, as it should be for a bride on her wedding day.

I would also be remiss if I didn't make a quick note about Pippa, Kate's sister.  She, too, looked amazing.  Any bridesmaid would be thrilled to wear the dress that she did, as most bridesmaid dresses are absolutely horrible.  I love the picture above, not only because it shows off the entire wedding dress, but it captures such a great moment between two sisters.

I hope that in all of the madness of this day for them, that the royal couple had time to take everything in and celebrate their relationship.  That's what weddings are about afterall.  I also hope that the press and public allow them time to settle in as husband and wife; it has to be hard to do so under the scrutiny of the photo lens.  At the end of the day, they are just a man and a woman who fell in love and are starting down an amazing journey together.  Royals- they are just like us, only with better jewelry.
