I have a love/hate relationship with tights in that I love the look of them but hate that the second I put them on I'm instantly transported back to the epic 5-year-old fights I had with my mother (which I inevitably lost) over wearing tights as a little girl and that uncomfortable feeling of having to wear them afterwards.

How to Save a Life

Breast Cancer will effect one in eight women in the US during their lifetime. It's the most common form of cancer and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women. Those are some scary statistics and their impact shouldn't be minimized. But there is good news: Breast Cancer, especially if caught early, is incredibly treatable and beatable. It's all about early detection and being an advocate for your own health.
Check yourself before you wreck yourself
Like I said earlier, it's all about early detection and being proactive. Know what normal is for your body. And when something doesn't feel right, don't be shy or feel weird about asking your doctor and speaking up!
See a doctor
It's amazing to me how many women don't actually see their doctor's yearly OR speak to their general practitioners about what's going on with them. Speak up! And don't feel silly about it. Also, know your genetic history. Sometime, despite your best efforts, genetics can win out. If you have a familial history, your risk is increased.
Live a healthy life
Far be it from me to preach on this front (I'm just as guilty as the next person for caving to eat some fried goodness), but making healthy, conscious decisions about what you are doing and putting into your body will go a long way. So exercise regularly, limit your adult beverages, and if you haven't already, cut the cigarettes out of your life. (Seriously, do I need to list the reasons why?!)
Outside of taking care of yourself and being your own health advocate, there's a lot that you can do to support the cause. First and foremost, finding an organization that gives back is the best way to get involved. It's not about money (although these organizations will gladly take donations), but also about time and assisting with event planning to raise money. There are many wonderful organizations and groups that you can be a part of and donate to in order to help support research and women to find a cure.
And for our brown-eyed girl....we miss you every single day.

Sunday Brunch and a Magic Pair of Pants
10/09/2012This past Sunday, I gathered with some of my favorite people to bid farewell to a dear friend who is embarking on a super exciting new adventure. Brunch is my absolute favorite and I was super excited that the weather was FINALLY cool enough to layer and not have people give you the 'you're crazy' side-eye.
And here's the crazy thing about these pants...I bought them prior to pregnancy and wore them pre-preggo, and then wore them the entire time I was pregnant (as in I was wearing them the day I went into labor) and I wear them now. They are a wardrobe staple that apparently has been able to withstand the laws of physics and didn't stretch at all despite my incessant wearing of a non-pregnancy pants during my entire pregnancy. If that's not an endorsement for Gap and the quality of their pants, I don't know what is.

I have been a huge fan of Kendra Scott's Danielle Earrings for awhile. I love how they are big and fabulous and can dress up any outfit, but can be so casual at the same time. I own them in several colors and always find myself at the jewelry counter debating which pair to get next. If the Danielle variety is too big for you, try the smaller Elle. These earrings aren't the only fabulous pieces by this designer. Honestly, I have yet to find a piece of hers that I am not a fan of. Here are a few of my favorites.

Casual Friday
4/13/2012Not too long ago, Hubs took off work and as a family we ventured to the Duke Gardens to have a little picnic with our little peanut. The Gardens hold such a special place in our hearts; it's where we were married and where we have spent every anniversary since. It was so wonderful to share it with our little guy, especially since the wisteria on the pergola was in full bloom.
Dressing casually has never been a strong suit of mine. I don't own a ton of flats and having to traverse the gardens with infant, husband, and gear in tow, I knew that I'd need to wear something easy.
