how to dress for the holidays

12/13/2017

When I think about dressing through the holidays, whether it be for Christmas or through the new year, I think about bold textures, fun hemlines, and the right amount of sparkle.  If we are being honest with ourselves, this is a year-round MO, but I especially love to play it up this time of year.  The good news is that holiday collections in stores are chock-full of these details and they are incredibly easy to incorporate regardless of the event.  Without further ado, I've put together a definitive list of must-haves for the holidays.

Sequins: They are pretty much a no-brainer this time of year and are in no amount of short supply.  Whether you are rocking a fully sequined dress or want to casually slip a little into a look, it a sure fire way to spruce up your holiday attire.

Lace: I love a good lace dress and though it's more commonly considered a warmer weather fabric, don't be afraid to rock it in the Fall/Winter.  Extra bonus points if it's a deeper, richer shade.

Texture: Whether it's pleats, tweed, or velvet this time of year is perfect to go all in on warm, rich textures.  Bonus points if there additional sparkle on them.

Tulle: Maybe it's the ex-ballerina in me, or maybe it's just my love of fuller skirts, but there are few things better than a good tulle skirt.  I actually almost got rid of this skirt recently and thankfully my good friend talked me down from a ledge (who says tulle has an age limit?!)

Sparkly Accessories: I can appreciate that a full-on sequin dress or full tulle skirt is not everyone's cup of tea.  If you are into more subtle details, I recommend hyping up the accessories end of things.  I snagged these stunners and they are so fun OR rock some fun baubles.

The number one rule of holiday dressing is to have fun-don't take yourself too seriously, and most importantly throw caution to the wind - if not now, then when?!
