fitting room diaries: lessons in patience and mens denim

4/01/2014

It always starts out simple enough: I need to go to the mall to return a few things, pick a few things up and I think to myself hey, wouldn't it be nice to hang with Scott? So Scott comes along and next thing I know we are on an epic quest of <insert item here> article of clothing and I'm camped out in the fitting room of Nordstrom.  Don't get me wrong, there are far worse places to be camped out, but despite my repeated experience in this situation, I'm always surprised by my husband's ability to hijack what would normally be a reasonably quick outing and turn it into a 4 hour long experience.  Regardless of whether by choice or hijacking, it usually does turn out to be fun; we do end up getting to spend some quality time together and I end up making friends with the associates at Nordstrom. I did also get a scrumptious red velvet cupcake for my time, so there's that as well.

Two rather serendipitous outcomes of hanging out in the fitting room on this particular occasion: 1) I learned way more than I ever needed to know about men's denim and 2) I won the battle on skinny jeans and Scott walked away with 3 pairs. Scott being a skeptic of skinny(er) jeans for men, has been fighting against my insertion of these pieces in his closet for the better part of 6 months.  I gave up about 3 months ago when I bought him a pair for Christmas and he promptly returned them in exchange for a pair of shoes.  But since Peanut was spending the day with his grandparents (Thanks Mimi & Grandpa) we had some serious time to spend without worrying about entertaining a toddler, a task that is far more difficult in a fitting room than you'd think.

If you are looking for a pair of jeans for your man, I've shared some of our faves from the outing including Joes, A.P.C., and JCrew's options.  And I would highly recommend spending some time speaking to the fabulous gentlemen at the Denim Bar at Nordstrom - they rock.
