a day in the life update

11/06/2017

Getting back into work after leave definitely has its challenges.  Being one who does have a passion for what I do and enjoys work, even I found it difficult to get back into the swing of things.  Part of it was likely due to the fact that we were in a temporary childcare situation until the girls' daycare spots opened up which we loved but knew it wasn't permanent and also Liam was starting kindergarten.  Now that everyone is in their respective places and we've gotten a good stride about how we manage our day, we are feeling a bit more settled in our routine.

Often times I am asked, what is it like working from home? or how do you structure your day when you work from home? Working from home is definitely a different dynamic than working from the office.  Having a more corporate role, does provide me a bit more structure at a baseline than if I owned my own company or was doing free-lance work.  Regardless, there is the possibility to slide downhill fast and so it is very important for my day-to-day success to have as much structure as possible with enough flexibility to account for variance with work and kids.  It's definitely a balancing act and above is and 'ideal' day.  How many 'ideal' days I have? Well, we'll give it a solid 80% of the time.  20% of the time (if not more) is a total crap shoot.

When I posted this back in April (nearly two weeks prior to the girls making their appearance), I nearly laughed at myself.  I knew that at this point that our day-to-day was going to vastly change in the near-immediate future.  We weren't really sure what it was going to look like or how long it was going to stick, but for now we've reached as much stability as you can expect with twins who are less than a year and a 5-year-old.  And since even I am intrigued with how we manage our day-to-day, I felt an update was in order.  I'd love to hear your tips and tricks for how you make it through the day; what apps you use; what mantras you swear by.
