If you've followed me in these parts for a while, you likely have noted a void of fashion reduxes from red carpet events as of late.  I haven't even live tweeted the red carpet - which is one of my favorite past times.  I used to love the red carpet: the thrill of seeing the gorgeous couture, the snarky commentary, the moments that make you gasp in awe. As of late, I've found the red carpet at these events to be lacking - everyone plays it safe, there are too few real fashion risks being taken, and it's a sea of ball gowns and lack luster jewelry choices (and don't even get me started on E! News mani-cam.

That's why, it is so shocking for me to be wow-ed this year and by none other than Rihanna.  Rihanna gets a lot of flack in our household.  I'm not a huge fan of her or her fashion choices for that matter. I even scoffed when the CFDA awarded her the Fashion Icon Award last year.  But then she created this moment and despite the ball-gown nature of this pink, cupcake perfection, I have to give props to RiRi.  She brought couture back to the red carpet in a big way.  She showed Lena Dunham how it's done.  And then she morphed into a sleek look for her performance proving that perhaps she can rock the spectrum of couture, from traditional to non-traditional and do it so effortlessly and seamlessly that perhaps, just perhaps, the CFDA knew what they were doing.
