Blueberry Bandit

7/05/2013

One of my favorite activities in the summer months is berry picking.  I usually don't discriminate: strawberries, blackberries, blueberries; there is something so satisfying about going out and picking your own.  The wonderful thing about these parts is despite a lot of urban space, it's not too hard to find a nook or cranny that is seemingly untouched and provides just the perfect spot to procure some berries.  This nook is where Peanut and I found ourselves this past Saturday, happily picking berries at Patchwork Farms.  If you are in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area, I highly recommend it.  It's not terribly far off of the beaten path and in a few weeks will be filled with even more scrumptious fresh, local berries than were there already.

[mid-berry shove]

Peanut, being a lover of all berries, loved it - mostly because it afforded him the opportunity to stuff berries into those great cheeks of his.  But also because there were not only berries, which he actually quickly tired of having to do manual labor to get, but there were....chickens.  Rookie mom mistake to think that the joys and wonderment of berry picking would outweigh chickens.  Whether it was the berries or the chickens, we had a fabulous time.

[caught red-handed, those cheeks are chock-full of berries // hunter boots got brought out due to all of the rain we've had, but really I take any excuse I can get to wear 'em]
