Spring Reads

4/28/2014

The GoldFind, Donna Tarte, Steve Jobs, The One & Only, Emily Giffin, Gone Girl, Gillian Flynn, Where'd you go Bernadette, Ramshackle Glam, Jordan Reid, Devil in the While City

So here's a little known fact about me: I'm actually a huge book worm.  I love reading and have since I was very young.  The plus side to that is that usually I'm a plethora of random book requests at the drop of a hat.  And this spring, I have quite a few of my recommended and 'to-read' list to share with y'all.

The Goldfinch
Status: To read
Why: Everyone is recommending it (Yes, I cave to literary peer pressure) and the premise sounds interesting

Steve Jobs
Status: To read
Why: I know, I'm way beyond the eight ball with this one, but given Steve Jobs (like him, hate him, whatever) was a visionary who has shaped our world, I suspect it'll be a good read.

The One & Only
Status: To read (shows up on bookshelves on 20 May)
Why: I love Emily Giffin's books and who am I kidding, Emily Giffin herself.  Seriously you should follow her on twitter.

The Invention of Wings
Status: To read
Why: Sue Monk Kidd does a good book.  I also recommend you check of The Secret Life of Bees

Gone Girl
Status: Recommended
Why: This is probably one of the best written books I've read in a very long time.  It's a roller coaster of emotions and the movie comes out in October.  You'll want to read the book first, I promise.

Where'd you go Bernadette
Status: Recommended
Why: Loved the storyline and the manner in which it was told (a collection of emails, letters, and other documents for the majority of they story).  It keeps you on your toes and let's you do some of the problem solving which is pretty interesting.

Ramshackle Glam
Status: To read
Why: If you haven't already checked out Jordan's website, you should.  I find Jordan's take on motherhood refreshing: she's ultra cool, she's authentic, and her son...well he's just adorable.  If the book is anything like her website, it's a down-to-earth perspective on life with baby and like a chat with your good girlfriends with a glass of wine.

Devil in the White City
Status: Recommended
Why: This book follows two plot lines - one, the building and execution of the World Fair in Chicago and two, a serial killer who was roaming the streets at the same time.  It's a fascinating view into the politics behind the Fair, as well as the architecture set against a crazy story which is completely enthralling.  Also, word on the street is Leo bought the movie rights.....

I'd love the hear what you are reading these days! What do you recommend? Have you read any of the above?

  1. I'm also a huge Emily Giffin fan! I didn't know she had a new book coming out, so I'm excited about that.

I think I'm the only person that didn't like Gone Girl. I got about half way into it, and just couldn't. It was so dark to me, and just the half of it gave me nightmares...ahhh!
