Guest Post from The Look 4 Less

9/29/2011

Meet Jen of The Look 4 Less.  Jen has a knack for finding celebrity and other looks for less.  Her "Style Me Saturday" posts have helped out tons of people (myself included) to maneuver through what to wear.  And her advice is SPOT on.  (Refer to this post from earlier this year to see her advice in action.) Enjoy!

My name is Jen and I run the blog The Look 4 Less. I started my blog back in 2007 because I seemed to have a strange knack for finding lookalike items and hadn't seen any blogs that were solely devoted to lookalike items (most just did special features occasionally or on a weekly rotation). I had just gotten married and since I no longer had a wedding to plan, I started The Look 4 Less blog to fill some of my spare time and the rest is history!

1. First & foremost, thanks for the advice on my girls trip to LA back in March. Your outfit choices were spot on! How do you do such an amazing job picking clothing for people you haven’t met & don’t know well at all?
I'm so glad I was able to help! The main thing I try to do when people email me for requests is to really listen to (read?) what they're saying. It helps immensely when people tell me their favorite stores, favorite celebrities in terms of style, what they dislike, etc. Those little things definitely point me in the right direction! I often google the celebrities they mention (even if I'm familiar with their style), getting inspiration from outfits they've worn in the past. If they mention stores - I sometimes get inspiration by looking at their favorite store's lookbook.

2. What are your go-to sites/stores when searching for clothing for both yourself and your readers?
I often look to lower priced retailers for my readers, as most of them are looking for a budget friendly outfit or item. If they like Anthropologie - ModCloth or Shop Ruche are great jumping off points. If they are fans of expensive jewelry, Mimi's The Look for Less has a ton of great inspired by accessories. Love J Crew? Check out Gap or Old Navy first - they usually have some similar items. When shopping for myself, I'm all over the map - I occasionally splurge at Shopbop or Nordstrom, but I also love my $10.50 jeans from Forever 21! I think it's important to have a good mix of budget friendly and investment pieces in your closet. If you're going to wear something everyday, it might be worth spending a little extra $$. If you are a flats girl but love the look of Christian Louboutin heels, it's probably wise to just buy the look 4 less.

3. Your blog is absolutely fantastic! What got it started and has it always been focused on accomplishing a look for less?
Thank you so much! As I mentioned in the intro, I have always had a strange knack for spotting lookalike items. In the fall of 2007, I had just gotten married a couple of months earlier and was looking for a new creative outlet, so The Look 4 Less was born. Yes, it has always been focused on accomplishing a look for less. It began with only showcasing great look 4 less items, which has since expanded into occasional "inspired by", celebrity style (looks 4 less and style steals), as well as personal styling ("Style Me Saturday") posts.

4. What is your favorite trend this Fall/Winter?
I love the ladylike chic look of the tie neck blouse, although I have yet to find the perfect one for myself. I think it looks great with jeans and boots for a more casual look or you can throw it on with trousers or a pencil skirt for work - it's so versatile, which I love. You can see a cute and affordable option from Old Navy HERE.

5. What is your must-have for any wardrobe this Fall?
Flare jeans! I think they are so flattering and although I love my skinnies to tuck into boots, I bought a couple pairs of great fitting flare jeans that I plan on wearing a ton this fall.

6. What are you currently lusting after?
Frye Paige Tall Riding boots - gorgeous!

7. What are three things you couldn’t live without?
The number one thing is definitely my yorkie Einstein. He's my little buddy and goes with me practically everywhere! I don't know what I would do without him. Second, I cannot live without Diet Caffeine Free Coke. I'm an addict!! Yes, I realize it's basically just carbonated sugar (aspartame) water but I love the taste. Third is a pair of Forever 21 cat eye sunglasses. I have a couple pairs of expensive sunglasses yet I always find myself reaching for the ones I spent $5.80 on!

Thanks again Jen!! Don't forget to check out Jen's blog, follow her on Twitter,  and Like her on Facebook.
