Guest Post from Life, Love, and the Pursuit of Shoes

9/26/2011

Meet Ashley, the voice behind Life, Love, and the Pursuit of Shoes.  Ashley has ah.may.zing taste in shoes and clothing.  Her blog is absolutely full of yummy morsels and tidbits that have the ability to fill my day with dreams of 5 inch platform pumps!  I am super excited to have her guest blog for me.

I am a LA girl, born and raised who Graduated from USC in 2008 with an Accounting Degree. After working at a Big 4 Accounting Firm for almost a year and half, I decided to follow my heart and jump into fashion. I currently work for Hautelook and of course love blogging my heart out on Life, Love and the Pursuit of Shoes.
Pursuit of Shoes follows a shoe lovers quest (that's me!) for amazing shoes through unique editorial content, product reviews, sale alerts and shoe eye candy.  You will find outfit posts, shoes shopping guides, giveaways and exciting daily style content from yours truly!

How would you describe your style?
My style is a mix of a lot of things but at the end of the day I'm a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl who loves to jazz it up with sky high heels or funky shoes. Shoes really are an outfit changer! I went to a very preppy high school so I still have a little prep in my step... J. Crew is one of my fav stores. I'm also a very girly girl at heart- bows, silky prints, flowers and pink are my favs! Over the past couple years I've also developed a love for animal print (mostly leopard)...when done tastefully, the sky is the limit.

I can imagine that your shoe closet is pretty fantastic.  What are some of your favorites in your collection? And what makes them your favorites?
I like to think it's fantastic although there is always room for improvement... ahem... more shoes! Right now my favorite pair are the Brian Atwood 'Felini' Pump that I nabbed at the Net-A-Porter End of Season sale. The silhouette is gorgeous + the blue color is striking.

Another pair that I heart is my "holiday heels", aka Dsquared2 Candy Cane heels. They are so out there and different but beyond perfect for Christmas time. I'm counting down the months until I can wear them again. My first pair of designer shoes were by Giuseppe Zanotti. They are a gorgeous black peep toe pumps with a diamante brooch on the toe. Definitely classics that I will wear forever. At the time the 4" heel seemed extremely high but now it's pretty average compared to the heel heights these days!

Of course, a favorites lists wouldn't be complete without Monsieur Christian Louboutin. When CL was in Los Angeles doing a signing, I managed to get out of work early and not only meet him but get my Pigalle heels signed. Best day ever!!

When shoe shopping, what are some of the things you look for in a shoe? Are there any deal-breakers?
Besides the cute factor, price and quality are total deal breakers. Comfort isn't necessarily a factor. Pain is beauty! I have a pair of Alexander Wang booties that are so painful but they are fierce.
I'm all about finding the best deal. Google is you're best friend when shopping online and flash sale sites like Hautelook, Gilt and My Habit always have fantastic steals. I wouldn't spend anymore than $150 on a super trendy style. When I buy expensive shoes it's an investment and the style needs to be wearable for a long time: basic pumps, riding boots, etc. I try to keep myself on a shoe budget which means my shoe purchases are very well thought out! ;)

Do you have any favorite brands that are your go-tos? Any brands that have surprised you lately?
Go-tos are definitely Sam Edelman, Dolce Vita, and Pour La Victoire - you can always find a stylish and moderately priced pair no matter what season. For flats it's all about J. Crew - the quality is there and they are oh-so stylish. L.A.M.B. is one brand that's always on my radar. They've produced some fab shoes! If I'm saving up for a big purchase I would go with Christian Louboutin or Brian Atwood. They make women's feet look gorgeous! Classics: Chanel & Prada.
A few months ago I started looking at Topshop's footwear. Definitely a place to keep an eye on. I'm excited for the launch of Zara.com because their shoe section will be a great spot for on-trend shoes!

What are you currently lusting after?
Too many things! The L.A.M.B. 'Bindi' Booties are on my Fall must-have list.  Also looking for the perfect chic cape or poncho. A new Rebecca Minkoff cross-body bag wouldn't be too bad either.

What is your favorite trend this Fall/Winter?
Leopard of course! Ooh and polka dots. Can I have 3 favorites? Pop of color is number 3. My style is evolving and slowly I'm gravitating towards prints and more color in my wardrobe.

What are the three things your couldn't live without?
I think the smart thing to say would be water, food, and air but in the  spirit of  "Life, Love and the Pursuit of Shoes"...

1. Los Angeles
2. Aaron (Mr. Pursuit of Shoes)
                3. Christian Louboutin

Thanks again for guest posting Ashley!  You have successfully added about 5 more pairs of shoes to my "Must-have" list ;) Don't forget to check our her blog and follow her on Twitter.
